The hike to Grinnell Lake is an easy day hike if you have extra time in the Many Glacier area of Glacier National Park.
The hike itself is only 6.9 miles and 465 feet of elevation, with a good enough trail that trail hikers or sneakers are the only footwear needed.
Starting from either the Grinnell Glacier trailhead or the Many Glacier Lodge parking lot, you wind past Swiftcurrent Lake and Lake Josephine on your way up to the picturesque Grinnell Lake.
Some people opt to take the lake ferry boats across these lakes, but it really isn’t worth the constraint of waiting on their schedule. We highly recommend taking the Little Chief tour boat on Saint Mary Lake for a boat ride with amazing views and excellent narration of the flora, fauna, geography, and history of the area.
The rocky point that juts out into the lake is the must-do photo op here, with Grinnell Falls trickling down in front of you from Grinnell Glacier and a perfect mirror image on calm days.
Even with the cloudy morning and smoke haze from the Canadian wildfires, this trail did not disappoint in any way – from the lack of crowds to the views, we’d rate this one a must-do.
Since we’ve been behind on posting, there’s one more hike post from Avalanche Lake, a Glacier Itineraries wrap-up, and then the Banff National Park photos will finally start to show up.
