What is Highpointing?

Highpointing is visiting the highest point in each state in the country. Some people also highpoint by county, but I decided that I wanted to stand on the highest point in every state.  Highpointing is different from peakbagging in that peakbagging is climbing every peak in a certain list, such as the Seven Summits (1 out of 7 so far), or the Colorado 14ers (45 out of 58 as of 9/26/2023).

Some high points aren’t very high – Florida’s Britton Hill.

Some high points aren’t much of anything – Elbright Azimuth.

But SOME high points require some work – Mount Denali being the prime example, with other notables such as California’s Mount Whitney, Washington’s Mount Rainier, and Colorado’s Mount Elbert following up the list. IF you have to ask WHY somebody would climb these, well, you’re probably smart enough not to climb them 🙂
