Ucluelet (Ukee to the locals) is the first stop on our visit to Vancouver Island.
It’s not easy to get to, but I’ll capture all of the travel nonsense in a Vancouver Island followup post.
But for those of us who must go-see-do everything, it’s a destination worth a bit of a journey.
Ucluelet is like the backwoods cousin to the more posh Tofino just to the north.
Woodsy, coasty, just no banjo.
The Amphitrite Point Lighthouse loop trail is the must-do hike here, and where most of these photos are from.
The lighthouse itself isn’t worth wasting any film on, but the easy hike is definitely worthwhile.
Easy enough to draw crowds, long enough and secluded enough to not see too many of them when you’re out enjoying nature.
When visiting Vancouver Island, it’s a must-do once.
Certainly not a destination in itself though.
Coastal Inspiration

I’m not sure what’s inspiring about this ferry from the mainland, but it is a pretty cool ship.
Happy Traveler

She always looks happiest when she’s traveling
All Twisted Up

It’s a horrible shot and not focused, but it’s such a cool tree that I kept it. I’m surprised that Home Depot hasn’t come and cut it down since it looks like most of their lumber…
Window To The Sea

A perfect break in the trees to watch a sailboat head out on the Pacific.
Wild Weather

The fog rolls in as I marvel at just how bent and windswept this tree is.
Classic Coastline

This is what I picture when I think of Pacific Northwest or Maine coastline.
Rocky Edge

You don’t want to be too close to this shoreline
Evelyn May Not

Pretty sure that the Evelen May is past her prime.
Vancouver Island Brewing
Here There Be Beers

Unwinding with a couple cold local brews at the Floathouse in Ucluelet Harbor.
