We’ve heard about Crested Butte (Crusty Butt!) for years, but this is our first time making it here. At 8,900 ft elevation, it wasn’t a huge shock to us when it started snowing on us – at the end of May!
Amazing scenery, wildlife, and old mining ruins abound for your viewing pleasure, and this is one spot that’s definitely on our return list for 2019.

Marmot Xing

I can appreciate the spirit behind the sign, but honestly there are about 800 million extra mamots around here. If they run out in front of the Jeep, well – they were the dumb ones anyway and that’s just thinning of the herd.

Raging Waters

Raging Waters
I’m guessing that this guy is familiar with the crossing here on the Slate River and knows that he can make it with no problem. There’s no way I’d take the Jeep across this without watching somebody in front of me.

Another intrepid explorer crossing the Slate River at the Oh Be Joyful Recreation Area as fat snowflakes fall all around.

You can’t have much company when half of your table is covered by snow!

Red Fox

Red Fox
A scroungy red fox hunting along a ridgeline near us. Not the clearest shot since I only had my 28-300 lens with me, but I’m happy enough given the distance.
