We wandered through Badlands National Park just in time for the government shutdown – nice.
But – shutdown doesn’t mean that the gate is closed… And if the gate isn’t closed…
We had the entire park to ourselves. No tourists. No rangers. Nobody.
Well, there were the bighorn sheep.
And the numerous other resident creatures eyeing us from their hidey-holes as we spent our day driving and wandering.
But no other bipeds.
Pretty awesome to have an entire National Park to yourselves!
Badlands is on the list for a return trip, there is a lot to see and do here, and a few days and night spent with a camera and a tripod would be time well spent.

Closed Is Irrelevant

Closed Is Irrelevant
The government shutdown doesnt’ mean the gate is locked shut…

Big Expanse

Big Expanse
There’s a whole lot of nothing out there!

And It Drops

And It Drops
Watching the day fade away

I Love This

These folds are exactly what I expect from the badlands.

We’re the intruders here

It’s pretty obvious why these were considered badlands – unfarmable and not easy to navigate.
