Agate Fossil Beds National Monument probably isn’t on your list unless you’re a hardcore fossil nut.
I had seen the name in our master list of National Parks, National Monuments, National Preserves, etc – but it was never on our list until we noticed it wasn’t too far out of our way on our drive from South Dakota back home.
There’s not much to see, a nice little visitors center with some fossilized creatures found at the site, and two loop trails that you can hike.
It was 90ish degrees but we decided to hike both of the trails anyway since we know we’ll never be in this area again.
Interesting to see once, but you really really have to want to visit to make a trek out here.
