Parriott Mesa is an awesome low-class five hike and climb in Castle Valley outside Moab Utah.
I ran across this climb on Road Trip Ryan’s site, he has great writeups on a lot of activities in the Mountain West. www.roadtripryan.com/go/t/utah/moab/parriottmesa
The hike to the base of Parriott Mesa is under 3 miles roundtrip with about a thousand feet of elevation gain, and is easy enough for hikers of any skill level.
Once you reach the base of the mesa things change rapidly.
Some AllTrails reviews:
It got so steep and sketchy we turned around…
The rockfall is certainly a problem, but you can get around it if you are careful.
The trail actually continues to the top of the mesa but requires a climbing harness to attach to a cable. Slips would be fatal.
But another review:
W O W. Absolutely breathtaking, and the views of Castle Valley are amazing.
I tend to agree with the last post, the views from the mesa are uh-mazing.
The chimney is sketchy as the existing rope is shot, bring your own protection. The traverse would be sketchy but there is a via ferrata cable stretching the length of the dropoff that you can clip into.
Highly, highly, highly recommend, and will be doing this one again on our next visit to the Moab area.
