We started our Devil’s Punchbowl – Crystal Mill hike today with this rental car in the middle of the trail.
Despite the very clear signs about the road condition, some geniuses decided to have a few beers and take their rental car down to the first waterfall along the trail.
Apparently coming back up they ran straight into a massive rock, and the unbelted passenger face-planted into the windshield while the airbags deployed. Awesome!
Add a busted oil pan and most likely a destroyed engine, these idiots are going to have a huge bill from Sixt rent-a-car since rentals aren’t allowed off-road and no supplemental insurance is going to cover this damage. I’ve abused a lot of rental cars over my lifetime, but this certainly takes it to a whole new level.
Stupid hurts, it would be nice to do a little more thinning of the herd and get rid of more of these geniuses.

Wrecked Rental

Wrecked Rental
Stupid tourists rent a small SUV and think they’re ready to go four-wheeling. This Sixt Rental is destroyed.

Polluting

Polluting
The hole in the oil pan dumped all the engine oil out to pollute the South Fork of the Crystal River.

What Sign?

What Sign?
Nobody told us that we couldn’t go down this road!

Full Deployment

Full Deployment
Double airbag deployment. I especially like the beer cans in the passenger seat.

Rental Red

Rental Red
Red Colorado license plates are almost always rental vehicles – we avoid them at all costs.

Stupid Hurts!

Stupid Hurts!
I’m guessing the passenger wasn’t buckled up when they drove into a massive rock. Stupid hurts – and it’s the only way a lot of people learn.
