The Fiery Furnace is the MUST-SEE attraction in Arches National Park, at least for the adventurous types.
Entry is by permit only, so they can track entry and exit and go pick up anyone who is lost in the labyrinth.
The hiking itself is relatively easy, with only a few rock scrambles, but the route finding is something else entirely. With poor GPS reception and no real map, you’re left to your own navigational skills and sense of adventure to get you through the maze.
Great fun and amazing scenery, from narrow cracks that you squeeze through to tall sheer rock walls – but make sure you get your permit early!
Sharp Eyes
If you have sharp eyes, you can spot the hiking nerd!
Little Fingers
Little Fingers of sandstone poke up everywhere in the Fiery Furnace.
Easy-Squeezy
When you’re small and mighty like Colette this is easy-squeezy. When you’re not so small and mighty like yours truly it becomes quite a bit more challenging!
A Maze-Ing
It’s easy to see how people can get lost and turned around inside the Fiery Furnace. Long winding corridors of rock, many which are dead-ends. Tall spires and walls of rock. Narrow Passageways. Poor GPS reception. We call it fun!
