Sometimes the quickest way to get from Point A to Point B is to drive your car onto a flatbed train and get whisked away through the mountains!
While I was planning our Austria-Slovenia holiday, I realized that when we left Lake Bled that I wanted to see the picturesque Soca Valley and the only way to get there easily was by car train.
Having done this before in Switzerland, no sweat. Show up early to the station, drive onto a flat bed, wait for others to get loaded, and away you go!
Now THIS is the way to travel – sitting in the comfort of your own car, but being able to gawk at the beautiful scenery around you as the train engineer does all the driving.
For 45 minutes we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves as we were transported through tall mountains half covered in clouds, lush green valleys, and picturesque small villages.
Super cheap too, I think our one-way trip was around 16 euros. We can’t recommend this experience enough!!!

Ready to Roll
Parked on the car train, and ready to roll out of the Bohinjska Bistrica station.

Downhill

Downhill
Most of the route is on a slight downhill grade. It would definitely be a different experience going the other way with the diesel locomotive working hard and spewing smoke!

Low Clearance

Low Clearance
Only room for travel in one direction, and you can see why they never built roads for cars here!
