Lookout Lakes is the perfect first hike in the Snowy Range!
Out of the 30 or so hikes I had dropped into my Garmin BaseCamp map for the Snowy Range area, I wanted to pick a quick winner to share with Colette.
We’ve figured out through numerous hikes that 6-8 miles and 1000 feet of elevation makes for a nice satisfying hike without being blown out at the end of the day.
The Lookout Lakes trail on AllTrails claims 4.9 miles and 695 feet of elevation, although we clocked 5.32 miles and 787 feet with our meandering.
What a perfect starter hike – crystal clear alpine lakes, gorgeous mountain views, and alpine wildflowers.
Another nice thing about coming in just before the holiday weekend – fewer people on the trails which means happier hiking for those of us with low people-tolerance : )

This could be anywhere in the Alps!
Crystal Clear
One of the amazing things about alpine lakes and ponds is the crystal clear water because it’s so cold that it doesn’t cloud up with algae.
Time to Leave
As is common with mountain weather, we rolled out just in time for the thunderstorms to roll in.
