We were looking for a nice forested hike close to the RV, and I had spotted the Lily Pond trail while I was climbing Mt Elbert. It looked like a great option with small ponds and good tree cover, so we opted for it.
I had enjoyed the thick aspen groves on the Elbert trail so much that we decided to go up to around 11,000 feet on the Elbert trail also to a viewpoint that I remembered.
Well worth the effort, and highly recommended for anyone in the Twin Lakes area looking to spend a couple hours traipsing around the woods.
Quaking Aspen
The Mount Elbert East Ridge Trail has the thickest grove of aspens that we’ve ever seen.
A Path Runs Through It
Winding our way through the aspen grove.
House With a View
These beavers built themselves a house with quite a view at the Lily Pond below Mount Elbert.
