Our weekend focused around Lake Ammersee, and with good reason.
Train to Augsburg Thursday evening, followed by a train to Landsberg am Lech on Friday morning.
A quick triple-train hop from Landsberg am Lech to Schondorf on Saturday morning brought us to the docks early in the morning for our boat tour.
Despite crazy dropping temperatures and blustery winds, we thoroughly enjoyed the boat tour, staying on past our final destination of Herrsching to do a loop through Diessen and Riederau back to Herrsching.
We’re glad that we opted for the longer tour, as Diessen is very picturesque from the water, and there’s no rush to get back to Herrsching except to get up to the monastery biergarten for pork and beer!
Sunday morning walk along the shores of Lake Ammersee, then an S-bahn suburban train ride to Munich with a few stop-offs for local exploration, followed by the highspeed ICE train back home to Stuttgart and sitting in the comforts of our own place at dinnertime. We absolutely love European public transit!

Some crazy cloud layers between Ammersee and the Alps to the south.

Picture Perfect
Diessen is a picture-perfect seaside town, with the Marienmunster church towering above the treeling.

Small Lake Marina

Small Lake Marina
The small marinas with their boathouses are quite a change from the massive marinas that we’re used to.

St Albans

St Albans
St Albans is yet another picture-perfect little village along the Ammersee.

Moving Along

Moving Along
The sailors in the family will appreciate this photo. We watched this boat almost get knocked down twice before he wisened up and reefed the main.
