Island In The Sky is a mesa in the northern section of Canyonlands National Park, 1,000 feet above the surrounding terrain.
This area of the park is quite remote, even for Utah. The Maze District on the wet side of the Park is the only area more remote, and the Park Service encourages use of old-fashioned paper maps since GPS leads many visitors astray and this is no country for navigational error.
There are several short trails along the Island In The Sky mesa, all of the longer trails descend down from the rim over 1,000 feet and are strenuous. Come prepared!
