Wasson Peak is rated the number one hike in Saguaro National Park West, and for good reason.
We chose to take the combo route – Kings Canyon Trail to the Sweetwater Trail to Wasson Peak, returning on the Hugh Norris Trail to Sendero Esperanza and finishing down the Gould Mine Trail back to the trailhead. This is definitely a better route than doing it clockwise, the switchbacks up the Hugh Norris Trail to the summit wouldn’t be much fun.
We got a brief downpour, just enough to make us pull out our raingear before it blew on through. If we hadn’t been prepared I’m sure it would have stalled over us and soaked us to the bone!
Ripples
Ripples and ripples of mountains and foothills stretch away from us at the top of Wasson Peak.
Trail With a View
Working our way down the switchbacks on the Hugh Norris trail from Wasson Peak.
Tinges of Yellow
The afternoon sunlight highlights all the desert life with yellow tinges.
Here Comes the Rain Again
Sunbeams shine through another cloudburst over the desert. We had a short rain spell that was heavy enough to pull rain gear out, but it blew past quickly.
