Filled with small waterfalls, rapids, and erosion potholes, the Vintgar Gorge is a 1600m long spectacle of nature.
With gloomy skies, we loaded our raingear in our backpacks but lucked out and stayed dry for the entire hike.
I think that most people do an out-and-back, but they miss out since the full loop gives you three hikes in one. First the gorge, then the tall pine forest, then the pasture walk a’la Switzerland.
Cows, a small village with a steeple, and then views down to Bled and Bled Castle towering above in the distance.
Farmers say to make hay while the sun is shining, wanderers say to make tracks while the rain isn’t falling!
Entering the Gorge
The wooden walkways along Vintgar Gorge were first built in 1893, with several renovations since then.
Viewpoints
Colette stops to enjoy a viewpoint along the Radovna River inside the gorge.
Choo Choo
A tall stone railway bridge built in 1904 still carries train traffic above the gorge.
Down the Falls
Looking down Sum Falls at the end of the Vintgar Gorge.
Through the Woods
People who only hike the gorge and then backtrack are missing out on an amazing experience in the woods.
