The Creede Fire Station is the world’s only underground fire station, located in a cave.
This fire station is the reason we had Creede on our list, I stumbled across an article about it seven or eight years ago and put it on the Go-See-Do list.
Creede is on the way to absolutely nothing, so this was our first reasonable opportunity to get here as we were going from Gunnison to Durango anyway, and we adjusted our route to see Lake City and Creede.
This post is a shout-out to all of the firemen and firewomen in the Johnston family – while you don’t have a cool underground fire department, the townfolk in South Lyon appreciate you just the same.
Pretty cool to finally see this one!

I believe this that this is the only fire station in the world built in a cave.

Perfect Layout

Perfect Layout
Somebody thought out the design, but it must be a royal pain to back the equipment in.

Fire Classic

Fire Classic
I’m guessing that this old beauty only makes it out for parades.

The Patches

The Patches
If I had thought ahead, I’d have had the family firefighters send me a South Lyon Fire Department patch to add to the collection.

New Life

New Life
This is a good repurpose of old military equipment.

Best. Logo. Ever.

Best. Logo. Ever.
This is the logo that makes all the other fire departments jealous.

Nobody can complain about modern equipment when they see this oldie.
