The Country Boy Mine is a tourist attraction high in the Rocky Mountains east of Breckenridge Colorado at 10,115 feet.
While the mine itself is no longer a working mine due to flooding, collapses, and the cost vs return of mining minerals here, you can take a guided tour into the mine and learn both the history and the process of mining.
Pretty interesting stuff, just make sure you wear your hardhat due to the low clearance and water dripping from the ceiling as you walk 1,000 feet underground into the mountain.
Every mine tour I’ve done has had the “lights out experience” where the tour guide shuts the lights out and you’re in the darkest pitch black you’ve ever seen, and this one is no exception. Our guide did a wonderful job narrating and telling the history of both the mine and the area in general.

Work. Truck.

Work. Truck.
The two words go together.

When do they collect the fine?

When you’re done with your tour you can pan for gold in the water pouring out of the mine, mom ended up taking home a small vial with gold flakes to add to her collection. Then spend some time exploring the mining artifacts around the area, or just sit and enjoy the beautiful fall colors in high elevation Colorado.
I would highly recommend the Country Boy Mine tour for anyone interested in mining or just Colorado history, it’s informative and worth the visit.
Make sure you bring layers too – it stays a chilly 45 degrees inside the mine all year long!
