One of the good things about the COVID-19 lockdown is that since we’re confined to the German state of Baden-Wurttemburg, we’re exploring a lot of places in the state that we might otherwise skip over for far-flung high-excitement-factor places.

I spend several hours every week figuring out our biggest-bang-for-the-buck hiking trips for the weekend, combining a balance of nature and things to see through my viewfinder.

Hohenzollern Castle itself is on our tour list, but since it’s closed for coronavirus we wouldn’t have considered it as a destination if there wasn’t a convenient hike nearby with amazing views of the castle!

We combined a quick stop into Balingen, a nearby town that looked like it might be interesting. Not much to see, but some local art made the stop worthwhile.

What will make the cut for next weekend’s hiking trips?
