A beautiful Saturday morning, can’t leave Baden-Wurttemburg because of coronavirus, and can’t have groups of more than 2 people… What to do, what to do?
Alltrails to the rescue, with a beautiful hike in the Black Forest only a 30 minute drive from home.
8.5 miles and 1,300 feet of elevation, perfect for a Saturday afternoon stroll through the woods. Top it off with a castle ruin and we think we made the most of a coronavirus Saturday!
A River Flows Through It
The Rotelbach makes a beautiful accompaniment for a section of the hike.
Ray of Sunshine
More. Stairs.
There’s a nice section of uphill, and somebody put a ton of effort into building steps out of hand-hewn stone.
Not-Black-Forest
It’s not always completely black in the Black Forest!
Time Tested
Probably built in the 1200s, Burguine Zavelstein (Zavelstein castle ruins) is cool to stop by and see. Wars and time have not been kind to the structure, but yet another interesting piece of history in our backyard.
Light at the end of the Tunnel
A small shaft of light lights up this underground chamber at the Burgruine Zavelstein
