“Be grateful and celebrate the ordinary in your world” ~Melody Beattie.
As we wandered through the grove of giant sequoias on Easter I took a break, holding both hiking poles in one hand.
A beautiful butterfly fluttered about and landed on the handle. I was frozen. Other people walked by and marveled at what seemed like a pet butterfly. Jim and I passed the camera back and forth and the butterfly just sat there for about five minutes.
I should mention we were hiking in Mariposa Grove, a name which comes from Spanish explorers in the 1800s when they discovered a great cluster of butterflies (“mariposas” in Spanish) in the foothills of the Sierras.
It was a beautiful, EXTRAordinary, reminder of the gentle spirits that are all around us.
