The Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park is an amazing sight to see. It’s called the "Black Canyon" because it is so deep and so narrow that there’s a very limited window of time when the sun shines into the canyon. The rest of the time it’s shadowed, aka black. It’s nowhere near as amazing as the Grand Canyon (Grand > Black), but it’s definitely worth going out of your way to spend a day here hiking the trails and enjoying the wonder that Mother Nature gives us. It won’t be here forever folks, enjoy it while you’re young enough to truly experience it.

No Longer

No Longer
Visiting the Black Canyon of the Gunnison is no longer a dream, it’s finally a reality. We love Colorado for many reasons, and scenery like this is one of them.

Wow Time

Wow Time
Colette spends a little bit of "Wow Time" gazing out over the canyon.

Wilderness Permit Required

Wilderness Permit Required
Not so much wilderness as many places we’ve visited, it’s still a wild and wonderful part of untamed nature.

Big Blue

Big Blue
Normally I’m not a fan of selective color, but this shot of Colette’s blue shirt and the blue sky gave me a one-time pass.

Hit The Vein

Hit The Vein
Even the most geologically-challenged of us can appreciate the veins of rock running across the canyon.

Tree Huggers Unite!

Tree Huggers Unite!
That’s one weird tree-hugger right there.

Long Way Down

Long Way Down
While not the greatest shot technically, it certainly highlights the broad expanse and the depth of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison.
