An awesome "dune bashing" trip out of Dubai. The dune bashing wasn’t very interesting – basically a Land Cruiser with deflated tires, and the guide woudln’t let me show him how to properly drive the thing. But the scenery and the (relative) solitude was amazing. Having grown up in the desert, I appreciate the dunes, the scrub, and the resilient flora and fauna that inhabit the nether regions. Very cheap overall, and a great day/evening trip if you an extra day in Dubai.

No Mercy

No Mercy
The Arabian Desert is a harsh environment, and there is no mercy for the weak. Bones litter the sandy soil from the carcasses of those who couldn’t make the grade.

Classic

Classic
A man gazes out at the power lines cutting a swath through the middle of nowhere in the Arabian Desert. A juxtaposition of classic dress and modern technology.

Here and There

Here and There
The swirl of a dune leads into an eternity of bleak nothingness.

Red and Gold

The golden sun highlights red on the Arabian dunes

Heat Haze

Heat Haze
The sun sets brilliantly through the heat haze. I only brought my little Micro 4/3 camera so it’s missing a lot of detail, but it certainly captures the essence of nightfall in the desert.

Riding in the Dark

Riding in the Dark
Really, how often do you get to ride a camel in the dark?
